When you consume a lot of sodium then it drags calcium with it, so it will not be reabsorbed and retained. This means that the calcium will be expelled through urine. Also too much calcium in your urine may cause kidney stones.
Foods with too much salt are breads, cheeses, chips, cold cuts and much more that you should eat in moderation. It’s better to consume sea salt which has better health benefits.
Doing exercise makes your bones stronger. Beside, when your feet and legs carry the weight of your body forces your bones and muscles to work. This is one of the reasons why astronauts suffer from bone loss and muscular weakness.
This is mainly due to the fact that it’s not a weight-bearing activity. Bike riding does not increase your bone density, unlike walks, runs and hikes. Although it is good for your health, you should vary your activities.
Our body produce vitamin D when is exposed to sunlight. That’s why the sun has an important rol in our health, although you should not over do it.
By the way, vitamin D is very important for bone health since it helps in the absorption of calcium for stronger bones.
Since we are talking about vitamin D, you should also know that the body synthesises it with the cholesterol available in the skin through UV. Alcohol can interfere with the body ability to absorb calcium which directly affect our bones. Although the relation isn’t clear, the problem is that people that drink alcohol they usually do it very often so this make it more probable.
Some studies have shown a relation between bone loss with both the caffeine and the phosphorous in these beverages.
Too many cups of coffee or tea can also rob your bones of calcium. So it’s very important to control this. Also this includes energy drinks since they contain caffeine.
You can analyse by yourself the lives of people that drink coffee in a daily basis. Those people usually suffer from osteoporosis over the time. This isn’t a scientific proof but a good observation that can make you think about it.
When you regularly inhale cigarette smoke, your body can’t form new healthy bone tissue as easily. Also there’s no good reason to smoke considering that it damage our bodies in some many ways.
